This year, the University of Saskatchewan (USask) nominated UNICEF USask, a student-led campus club supporting children and youth worldwide, for a Youth in Philanthropy Award. The award was presented at the annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon held at Prairieland Park and hosted by the Saskatoon chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

The USask chapter of UNICEF consists of a community of more than 300 volunteers and 12 executive members who lead fundraising campaigns and initiatives supporting children locally and globally including cancer research and the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon. The organization also supports youth through U-Report, a social messaging tool to empower and connect young people.

The group tirelessly advocates for child rights, education, health equity and other social issues affecting youth. Under the leadership of president and founder Angi Patel, UNICEF USask won the 2023 Vera Pezer Award for Student Enhancement presented by the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union (USSU) for its exceptional contributions to student engagement.

The university is proud to recognize UNICEF USask and their ongoing commitment to thinking globally and acting locally for the world’s most vulnerable children.
