Why Give

As an alumnus or member of our community you understand that being a student can be challenging, but during a global pandemic, students are bound to face more hurdles on top of their typical course loads.

Many are struggling with social isolation and mental health challenges that come with being alone. Others have lost part-time and co-op jobs, making it difficult to pay for basic needs like and rent and groceries. In addition, some students are attending remote classes using outdated technology or without the necessary resources like textbooks.

Kate Nachilobe, third-year student in the College of Arts and Science

That’s why your donation to the Campaign for Students is more crucial this year than in any other. Your gift can be a light in the dark tunnel for students in a variety of situations, so they know there are people cheering them on and believing in what they can accomplish despite the current world challenges.

Last year, the campaign raised over $1.17M to support USask students in need, helping them excel in their educational pursuits.

Your donation again this year will provide students with immediate support for personal, health or medical emergencies; distance learning tools such as laptops, internet access, textbooks and online software; and help students struggling with mental health challenges and other urgent financial needs.

I am very interested in atmospheric physics as well as clean energy, and I aim to address issues of sustainability in the future. Thanks to the financial support of my scholarship, I’m able to devote my time to my studies, extracurricular activities, and local community which are helping me reach my goals.”

- Cara Remai, fifth-year student in the College of Engineering

"Training during a pandemic is difficult because we require our facilities to practice effectively, but I adapted by doing home workouts and staying in contact with my teammates virtually. The scholarship I received continues to motivate me in reaching my goals as a student-athlete during these challenging times."

- Michael Akintunde, Huskie track and field athlete, and second-year student in the Edwards School of Business

USask students are what the world needs. With your help, students can stay on track in their educational journey.

A year like no other

Studying in the kitchen, solving equations by their bedside, and rehearsing presentations in the living room are only a few of the many scenarios students are experiencing this school year.

They need you on their side as they navigate a new educational experience and increased financial barriers while earning their degrees.

"When I received donor assistance I was finally able to buy course-recommended textbooks rather than searching for old, worn-out copies at a thrift store, or just going without it and feeling like I was missing out! What a huge difference that made! And I know I am not alone."

- Autumn LaRose-Smith, president of the University of Saskatchewan Students' Union
